신디로퍼는 1953년 뉴욕에서 결손 가정의 자녀로
태어나 불우한 어린 시절의 외로움을 달래기 위한
방편으로 음악을 가까이 한 것이 계기가 되어 가수
로서의 꿈을 키워갔다. 1977년 Blue Angel이라는
그룹을 결성하고 진 피트니의 곡을 리메이크했으나
주목을 받지 못한 채 그룹과 결별하고 말았다.

결국 솔로로 전향하게 된 그녀는 1983년 작은 체구에
어울리지 않는 힘있는 보컬로 솔로 데뷔 앨범을 발표,
30대의 나이에 신인 스타로 발돋움했다. 이 앨범에서
두 곡이 인기챠트에 오르며 다음 해인 1985년 27회
그래미 시상식에서 신인 여자 가수상을 품에 안게 된다.
